Other Pathways
Mature Age TEE
To be considered as a mature age student you must be 20 years or
over before 1 March for entry into first semester, or 1 August if
commencing second semester, of the year in which you intend to
study. Two TEE subjects must be taking in the same year. Any two TEE
subjects may be taken and it is not necessary to include both a List
1 (Humanities) and List 2 (Quantitative/Science) subject. Students
undertaking a mature age TEE are required to demonstrate competency
in English.
Portfolio (ECU only)
Portfolio applications offer students an additional pathway to gain
entry to university studies. The portfolio pathway assesses
applicants based on a portfolio of evidence showing an ability to
succeed in higher education. The portfolio application caters for
school leavers and mature age applicants. All applicants need to
meet ECU’s minimum English requirements.
Private Colleges
ECU and Curtin have advanced standing agreements with Perth
Institute of Business & Technology (PIBT) and Alexander College.
Previous Tertiary Qualifications
If you have already studied at a tertiary institution, whether in
Australia or overseas, and have completed or partially completed a
bachelors degree or postgraduate qualification, including courses
offered through Open Universities Australia (www.open.edu.au).
Indigenous University Qualification Course (ECU only)
The Indigenous University Orientation Course (IUOC) is designed for
students who wish to do a pre-tertiary course to access university
studies. Admission to the IUOC is open to Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander people who will be at least 17 years old in their
year of study. Mature aged persons who may have been away from
formal education for some time are particularly encouraged to apply.
For further information please contact the Kurongkurl Katitjin
Office at GUC on 9920 4417.
Extension Study (Curtin Only)
Extension units are offered as individual units, within a non-award
program and do not normally lead to a recognised qualification.
Studies undertaken as an extension student do not guarantee a future
place in a University award course. Credit for a successfully
completed extension unit (excluding bridging units) may be given at
the discretion of the relevant Head of School should an extension
student be successful in gaining admission to an award course.
Please not that English competency is also a requirement for
admission to Curtin University of Technology. As at 2007, the cost
of enrolling in extension units is $50 per credit point. This cost
must be paid up front.
