Bachelor of Communication (Journalism)
The GUC supports Charles Sturt University's Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) in Geraldton. With practical journalism subjects, access to local media industry facilities and supporting units in communications, politics and creative pursuits, this course prepares students to respond to the rapidly changing world of media.
This three year full time course (or equivalent part-time) has a strong print journalism focus and caters to both cadet journalists already employed in regional newspapers and non-employed students.
In Geraldton the program runs with a one week intensive block of tuition at the start of every year for practical units with the more theoretical units completed through supported distance education (ie online lectures and materials and then a one hour tutorial per unit at the GUC each week). Students from other regional areas use the internet to participate in these tutorials.
